The Le Jazz Hotel – Midtown’s Best Jazz Bars and Lounges
Located in the heart of the Jazz Capital of the World, the Le Jazz Hotel has long been the place to stay for jazz lovers and music enthusiasts. It’s a stylish hotel with an elegant atmosphere, rich history, and many other features to make your stay unforgettable.
Winnie’s
Located in Midtown’s Refinery Hotel, Winnie’s is a surprisingly well-appointed bar and lounge. The bar has a few notable perks, including a wooded lobby bar, live jazz music and an impressive cocktail list. The bar is also well-suited for product launches and large-scale business gatherings.
While the bar has no shortage of cocktails to choose from, the real draw is its bartenders, who make a concerted effort to create bespoke drinks that showcase the best. As a result, the bar is a great spot to unwind after a long day of meetings or a night on the town. It’s also a great place to hold a business lunch or private dinner. Winnie’s is not your average hotel bar and offers a slew of small plates and appetizers, including some of the best steaks in town.
Winnie’s is also home to the most expensive cocktail in Manhattan, but if you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, this Midtown establishment will fit the bill. In addition to its slick cocktail menu, the bar also has an excellent selection of wine, including the most expensive bottle in town. So it’sonder this establishment was named the number-one cocktail bar in Manhattan.
While the bar’s list of cocktails is not to be sniffed at, the bar also offers a small selection of beers. Interestingly enough, the bar also has a decent selection of Japanese whisky, whose name eludes you.
The Django
Located in the Roxy Hotel basement, The Django is a jazz club that features a variety of live entertainment. This underground club has vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, and two cocktail bars. It’s also known for its curated selection of handcrafted cocktails.
The Django also hosts special Latin jazz nights. On Tuesdays, Los Hacheros plays Puerto Rican Salsa. On Wednesdays, Chino Pons plays Cuban Jazz. On Thursdays, Gerardo Contino and Los Habaneros play Cuban Timba. On Fridays, Alphonso Horne and The Gotham Kings play New Orleans Jazz.
Each month, Sachal Vasandani hosts a rotating cast of singers. She recently finished a master’s degree in Jazz Voice at the Manhattan School of Music. She is currently an educator on both coasts of the U.S. She has also worked with Delfeayo Marsalis, Willie Jones III, Terell Stafford, and Michael Buble.
The Django hosts a series of upcoming artists as part of its NextGen Series. These include recent graduates of the Juilliard School and the Berklee College of Music. They also have young jazz drummers, trumpet players, and a pianist.
In addition to these artists, The Django welcomes up-and-coming jazz trumpet player Andrew Wagner and a young jazz pianist and composer Anthony Hervey. Andrew graduated from the Jazz House Kids program in New Jersey and played in various NYC clubs. He also studied jazz drums with John Riley and Kennington. After Clifford Brown recorded in high school, he was inspired to start playing professionally.
