LG Stylo 6 Review

8

LG’s Stylo line of big-screen phones is a decent choice for budget-conscious users. It offers a great screen, good battery life, and a handy stylus.

However, its MediaTek Helio P35 chipset and 3GB of RAM hold it back. That’s not a problem for casual use, but it’s something to remember if you expect a super-fast phone.

Display

If you’re looking for an affordable big-screen phablet with a stylus, the LG Stylo 6 may be a perfect choice. It costs just $199 prepaid in the US, and it packs Android 5.1 Lollipop, a long-lasting battery, and a name-brand stylus into a big-screen body.

Despite its size, the Stylo 6’s display is impressively sharp at Full HD and 1080p resolution. It has an expansive frame, a wide 20.5:9 aspect ratio, and a U-shaped notch up top for the 13MP selfie camera.

It’s also one of the best displays we’ve seen on an affordable phone, with high-quality colors and a pixel density that rivals more premium options in this price range. It’s also an IPS panel with good viewing angles and an attractive brightness range.

Camera

The LG Stylo 6 is a budget-friendly phone with a competitively low prepaid price, an enduring battery, and a decent 8-megapixel camera. It’s also available with a stylus for added functionality.

The camera of the Lg Stylo 6 is impressive for its budget category, and it manages to produce high-quality images with great details, good color accuracy, and minimal noise in well-lit conditions. However, there’s a noticeable amount of digital noise in full-resolution pictures, and the camera struggles in low light.

The screen of the LG Stylo 6 is quite sharp and clear, especially when viewing videos or games. Although the display’s size is smaller than some phones in its category, it still delivers a satisfying multimedia experience.

Battery

The LG Stylo 6 is an affordable phablet with a mighty screen, a handy stylus, and excellent battery life. But it’s also hampered by an underpowered processor.

A MediaTek Helio P35 processor holds the Stylo 6 back when you’re working hard, and the 3GB RAM is a bit underwhelming too. That’s a big issue in this budget category because phones like the Motorola Moto G Power and OnePlus Nord N200 will run far better on that same budget.

Thankfully, the Stylo 6’s 4,000mAh cell can keep running for a day or more before charging. It also charges up quickly, taking under an hour to capture from empty to full. It’s not the longest-lasting battery in the stylus-toting phablet space, but it’s enough to get you through the day.

Software

If you want a big-screen smartphone with a stylus for a low prepaid price, the LG Stylo 6 is worth checking out. It offers a great design, a replaceable battery, and expandable storage for a decent price tag.

Unfortunately, the Stylo 6 isn’t perfect. The phone’s performance can be sluggish, 4G LTE data speeds are slightly erratic, and its camera doesn’t perform as well as the competition.

However, it has one key feature that makes up for these shortcomings: a built-in stylus with some helpful software. When you remove the stylus, an action bar will appear with options to create a memo, capture part of your screen as a GIF, draw on top of screenshots and more.

Design

LG’s latest stylus-toting phablet is an impressive device at its price. It boasts an excellent screen, strong battery life, and a great design.

But the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset and 3GB of RAM can slow down your multitasking performance. And the camera is mediocre at best.

It’s also not waterproof, so you should be careful about taking it in the rain. It also lacks necessary sensors, such as a barometer and ambient light sensors.
