Medical Education
The HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research (HPIER) is the clinical learning arm of the health system. The institute has two divisions: Health Professional Education, which administers the region’s emergency medicine residency program, and HealthPartners Simulation. The organization is led by Felix Ankle, vice president and executive director of HPIER. He previously served as program director of the emergency medicine residency at Regions Hospital.
The institute offers a hybrid longitudinal integrated clerkship for University of Minnesota medical students. This specialized training is completed over ten months and is an alternative to block scheduling.

The survey results show that most HealthPartners employees feel optimistic about their work environment. However, they also say that the pace of work is too fast and that 85% of employees work for less than eight hours daily. HealthPartners is among the lowest in employee satisfaction compared to other companies in the health insurance industry.
